Research questions and projects, embodied in a digital format, where meaning and expression cannot be otherwise replicated in print or traditional modes of scholarship. These projects involve the use of digital tools and methods to guide or to be used as a vehicle in carrying out research. Like traditional research, there are moments of not knowing – tools to achieve the end result may morph or pivot based on the current exploration. It is through the process of research that a scholar discovers new directions. Some methods include: text mining and data visualization, while tools can include TEI, Bamboo, Directory of tools, and multispectral imaging.
